I posted about a month ago about taking my wife out for her birthday and was debating on Susur vs Splendido. Although in that thread I chose Susur, we ended up changing to Splendido just because we were realling looking for good service after a less than enjoyable Valentine's day at Corner House.
Let me say off the bat that this was the best meal I've had ever. It was fantastic from beginning to end and the service was truly outstanding. From little things like being addressed by name all night, to really ensuring that any dietary concerns were addressed everything was great.
We went with the tasting menu that went like so
4 Spice Foie Gras with Pork Hock terrine and date puree - fantastic, although I prefer foie gras seared, it was still wonderful when eaten with the date puree. Great first course
Lobster with truffle infused ratouille - the lobster was perfectly sweet and
Sea Scallops, bacon, sweet bread veal - I've admittedly never had sweet bread before so this was something new, it was great, the sea scallops were perfect and the bacon was not overpowering.
New Zealand Dory smoked with carrots - not spectacular but it was good, the smokyness was a nice change of flavours
Sorbet - beautiful pallet cleanser of mint and citrus
Squab with seared foie gras - two servings of foie gras in one meal!? can't go wrong! again, my first time with squab, it was cooked beautifully. but i was getting very full at this point. Crispy but moist inside, it was perfect
Cheese - good selection of cheeses, I was too full to truly enjoy, but I had some Molino(sp?) which was infused with balck truffle...very very nice, was accompanied by toasted hazelnut and raisen bread..yum!
Deset was chocolate and almond layered cake with malt chocolate ice cream. the cake was good, very light for a chocolate cake, but was delcious with the malt chocolate ice cream. I am a sucker for malt chocolate!
So all in all, the dinner was delcious!!!! Service was truly outstanding! Total bill was around $320 for the two of us. Would highly recommend to everyone!
