After visiting the co-op nearby, my last stop in Ukiah was to grab dinner to take home at Spiro's Gyros. The lamb gyro meat and the fluffy pita came from one of Chicago's many suppliers, no doubt. Here the generic ingredients were handled with care, the robustly seasoned meat seared on the flat-top till crusty, fresh garnishes and wrapped up tightly. Even better, the warm greeting from the proprietor when you step inside. He's a regular comedian, ringing up my purchase and asking me to pay "840 pennies".
