Spike Hill Fish and Chips

Brooklyn Boy | Mar 24, 2005 03:44 PM

I've been meaning to post this one for about two weeks, so here goes...

I tried the fish and chips at Spike Hill, a pub on Bedford and North 7th in Williamsburg. I'd been there for drinks (pretty decent selection of beer), but had never sampled the food. The portion was enormous - three pieces of crispy, breaded fish atop a mound of equally crispy fries and a modicum of coleslaw thrown in for good measure. The slaw had quite a kick to it, though I neglected to ask the bartender what made it so spicy. Even with my bottomless stomach, I had to work overtime to finish it all. Afterwards, I nearly rolled down Bedford Avenue.

Anyone else ever try this dish? I know that people can get particular about their fish and chips (myself included), so I'd welcome any opinions. Even if you're not into fish and chips, Spike Hill is a fun, relaxed place to have a drink. It's good for groups, as they have several large booths in the rear.
