Spicy tuna roll: Marinate or wait?

For something like a spicy tuna roll, am I better off mixing the tuna with the spicy mayonnaise beforehand to marinate, or better off waiting till it's time to serve, to avoid texture problems? I'm thinking the latter. (My choices are basically eight hours of marinating vs. zero time marinating.)
