Spicy Bite on Cortland and Mission

DanParadox | Nov 30, 200306:30 AM

I recently ate at Spicy Bite on Cortland and Mission. I am very glad to say that it is great food.

I live on Mission street and have been waiting for this restaurant to open. I was not impressed by the lighting or the appearance of the menu (although it is nice to carry it out). I went with some friends to check it out anyway since they do takeout and I find the nearby Zante's pizza to have a limited menu.

Spicy Bite's menu offers many Indian dishes and a few "Chinese specialties" and Burritos. I am very wary of restaurants that try to do it all. I decided to stick to Indian food the first time out.

Great food that is really well spiced. I had a lamb dish(#39 Gosht Haseen) that reminded me of the kinds of Indian dinners I had back on 6th street in NYC and that I haven't found similarly here. The Chicken Tikka my neighbor had was also excellent and superbly spiced. My Garlic Naan was very good as was the unusual Peshawari Naan (stuffed with cherries).

I'm not a vegetarian, so I don't much appreciate veggie dishes, but I should say that their Saag Paneer (spiced spinach) was as good as I could hope for from spinach.

Life is short, Eat desert first! The Gajar Halwa is a desert made with carrots and is amazing! I was less impressed by the Phirni personally, but my dinner mates loved it.

The service was fantastic and really top notch. Our host was very attentive and accommodating. I look forwards to more meals there.
