special, but not too special, dinner

mandrake | Nov 9, 200310:27 AM

I'll soon be visiting chicago from out of town and wanted to take my fiance and a couple of friends out for a special meal. by special i mean exceedingly good, but but stratospherically expensive. the usual suspects, tru, trio, Trotters all look lovely but are beyond my means. plus, i'd rather focus on food than on the coordinated timing of the plates. i'm willing to spend the money, but would like to leave without having dropping a couple hundred bucks a person.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. my tastes run the gamut, but am particularly fond of new american and asian influences.
