Special Proprietary Cocktails in the D.C. Area

AC | Mar 3, 2006 11:05 AM

I’m looking for recommendations on everyone’s favorite proprietary cocktails in the DC area.

They can be cocktails that are exclusive to a particular restaurant or bar or they can be a restaurant’s unique take on a cocktail classic. Bonus points for recommendations that are not served in martini glasses- I feel cheated if I have to throw down $7-10 on a cocktail served up in a stingy ole martini glass.

Here are some of my personal favorites: the Jeed Jaad at Bangkok 54 (kind of like a deconstructed Thai meal- equal parts sweet, savory, and sour), the blueberry mojito at Zola, the seasonal cocktail and mojito at Restaurant Eve, the classic interpretation of the mojito at Café Salsa, and the beet mojito at Café Atlantico (I was skeptical, too, but it works).

Here are a few disappointments: the peartini at 100 King (they promised rosemary syrup and all I got was a rosemary sprig) and the pomegranate margarita at Rosa Mexicana (all I could taste was sour mix).

An oddity which I’m thankful exists, but which I will likely only have once in this lifetime: Restaurant Eve’s Pickled Martini.
