Special occasion for 8 serious food lovers in SF/East Bay

OakTownHound | Mar 18, 201704:36 PM     7

My mother-in-law's 70th birthday is coming up in a few months and she's coming to the Bay Area from the East Coast for the weekend. We're looking for a special occasion restaurant that can take a group of 8. Would love some group brainstorm help. Here are some details:

-This is a group of adventurous, well-traveled food lovers. Food needs to be superb.
-They've been to a million excellent restaurants all over the world, so we want somewhere that's not just great, but unique and memorable.
-Must be able to make a reservation.
-Must be quiet enough for easy conversation.
-Price is flexible, maybe up to $200/person before drinks (though much cheaper is just fine).
-SF or East Bay.

So far we've come up with Chez Panisse and State Bird Provisions. Also thinking about Mourad, though we've never been there.

Other ideas for truly unique and wonderful restaurants?
