Speaking of 50's L.A. Chinese Restaurants

I remember a dish my family used to get at Man Fook Low on San Pedro Street in L.A. - Beef Steamed Rice. It was a rice dish with some beef and sauce on top and a raw egg on top of that - the egg cooked in the hot sauce. I really loved that dish and have never heard of it or seen it anywhere else. Was it just something the restaurant invented? The rest of their menu was the standard stuff - shrimp with lobster sauce, sweet and sour, almond duck, etc.
