If you can't get into Sparks, there'd only one option...BOBBY VAN'S!

Why bother with the tried and tested S&W? Why bother with waiting 3 months for a res at Luger's. Head for Bobby Van's. Underneath the Helmsley building (Park and 46) the decor might be a little bit fakey, but make no mistake, they serve fantastic steaks! My personal suggestion is to go for the rib eye, medium rare so it gets a decent crust and the bugger is pink and bloody in the middle (their steaks must be about 2 inches thick, allowing for PROPER cooking). Essential accompaniments are the fried zucchini (courgettes crusted in parmesan cheese) and potato cakes. Don't forget a smear of BV's special steak sauce on the side. Allow enough in the budget for a bottle of South American Shiraz/Syrah, and the World's your oyster. I've never left left that place without a tremendous feeling of well-being (like one only gets after having eaten a well-cooked beast) and there's a bar next door (Lea) that serves excellent mojitos to round off a perfect evening. Don't miss out. Forget the rest. This is where it's at.
