Despite having made numerous trips to Europe over the years [from San Francisco], I'm chagrined to say we've never been to Spain [although I'm proficient in the language]. Thankfully, we're going in September but, sadly, we'll have only 8 days in country. Given that limitation, I think we'll need to base ourselves in 1 location and content ourselves with day trips or, at most, a 2 day diversion to a not-too-far secondary location. So, before I get to the chow part of this inquiry, I also should point out that, while I'd be up for constantly being on the move, staying up all night and seeing as much as possible, my wife and travel partner, justifiably, will want to have a placid and relaxing [romantic] time; and, we both want to spend considerable time vegging on nice beaches with great water. Finally, and this probably needn't even be stated on this board, we are going to be in pursuit of great local/regional food, both "chowish" and upscale. Given all that, I'm now considering -- but am open to other suggestions -- basing ourselves in Barcelona, with a likely sidetrip to one of the Balearic Islands [wife was conceived in Mallorca 41 yrs. ago], or in Malaga or Granada, with day trips to hill towns, Morocco and around the coast. Where do you think we should spend our too-short of a visit in order to try to satisfy our collective objectives [with a major one being good eating]. From perusing the board, I have seen that Barcelona may be the top choice, but I'd appreciate your input. Thanks.
