Spago last night review

JBK | Feb 10, 200512:53 PM

After all the rave reviews I've read here about Spago, I figured it was about time my wife and I tried it.
This will not be a rave review.
No review I read ever mentioned how noisy the place is, not quite 'scream' level, but damn near and there I was needing to brush up on my lip reading skills and so uncomfortable.
The service I'd call 'efficient' and totally indifferent as we weren't recognizable celebs. (That's my take on it)
We decided to try one of the truffle oriented appetizers and chose the 4 cheese pizza as the vehicle at $45, which unfortunately wasn't served with a magnifying glass to spot the truffles.
I had the duck breast as my main course and my wife, the veal chop. Both were 'okay' but not outstanding.
By the end of the entree we wren't interesting in staying any longer for dessert as the noise and claustrophobic table proximity were getting to us, so paid the bill for $200 that included a $55 bottle of wine and left.
We bothed rated the experience 6.5 out of 10 and on reflection, think that's generous.
Yeh I know, we're in the minority judging from the amount of people willing to toss bucks atPuck, but that was our disappointing experience and am reporting it like it was.
