Spacious restaurant--does this exist?

Looking for a place to have my mom take me for my birthday tomorrow. She is not a chowhound, and while she likes to think of herself as nonpicky she won't eat anything "ethnic" (Indian, chinese, japanese, etc.) but tapas or italian or "american" would be fine. And, most importantly, she hates places where the tables are on top of each other and you feel squeezed in. We'd be going tomorrow night (Wednesday). But since it is my birthday I would like the food to be great + the atmosphere to be somewhat festive.

Price is somewhat negotiable, but we were thinking under $100 total, so not too fancy.

Some of the places I've thought of and vetoed for one reason of another (though I am happy to be told I am wrong): inoteca (too crowded), punch & judy (same), Blue Ribbon Bakery (same), 9th street market (same), Artisanal (somewhat too expensive and not so festive), casa mono (too expensive).

I would really appreciate any advice as the hour is drawing late and my mom and I have started fighting...
