This location opened in June. I had been curious how the original would translate to a much smaller foot print and finally had a chance to check it out. I was especially hopeful they would carry a specific candy which I purchase at the Mother-ship several times a year to send to my Father.

They have opened in the old Seagrove Pottery location in Cameron Village. The space is laid out nicely and feels uncluttered and bright. The register area doubles as a coffee counter (no seats though). No deli or bakery, very, very (did I say very?) small cheese assortment. Small wine & beer selection. Very nice bottled soda section. There was signage that they have Boulted Bread delivery at some point during the week. Housewares are minimal. Candy is largely two tables of bulk canisters - one table is gummy, the other chocolate. The NC product section is decent. The rest is a pared down selection of the more popular aisles - hot sauce, spices, preserves, Italian, etc.

I don't foresee a reason to return. Perhaps if I needed a hard to find sanding sugar or extract. Or was in a hurry to make a gourmet goody basket as a gift. Or had a visitor who just had to get a NC food souvenir quickly.

With Penzeys, Fresh Market and Harris Teeter within a 3 min. walk the offerings at SS just don't seem much different than what is already in that area. The reason I drive to the original location is to obtain items I can't find in Raleigh. This small outpost does not eliminate that need with the exception of Sprecher's sodas.

Has anyone else checked them out? Curious what your reaction was.
