Here's a synopsis of my 7 nights chowing in California on first journey out west:
Day 1: Josie's, Santa Monica: Outstanding meal. Attentive service, great room. Husband especially enjoyed the KC steak.
Day 2: Chinois on Main, Santa Monica: Big mistake. I should have known to avoid a tourist trap but I had to go to a Wolfgang Puck place while out in Ca. My bbq salmon was delicious, but the service sucked royally...
Day 3: Palomino's, Palm Desert: Just decent..Did not know it was a chain before I went. Too much mashed potatoes and not enough tilapia, disappointing, kinda TGIF-like...
Day 4: Johanne's Cosmopolitan, Palm Springs: Amazing!!! Had one of the best scallop dishes of my life, with pine nuts and a fabulous aioli. Wow, I can still taste it. Oh, and the bread pudding was heavenly..Highly recommend it.
Day 5: St. James at the Vineyard, Palm Springs: What a restaurant, just gorgeous. The service was outstanding.. Had a great sea bass and my husband truly enjoyed the foie gras appetizer..
Day 6: AOC , West Hollywood: Was apprehensive b/c of bad reviews on this board, but just loved it! Had some of the best tuna, albacore with tapenade... Wow, what a combination of flavors... Also enjoyed the summer corn and squash salad.. Busy, but great service.. Would love to return here..
Day 7: Campanile, LA: Just outstanding.. Fabulous big eye tuna with nicoise olives and cranberry beans... One of the best fish dishes I've had ever...Shared the peach fritters dessert and could have eaten three more alone.. And the architecture here, with the fountain and courtyard is gorgeous...The chef was kind enought to carry my toddler around the restaurant so we could eat in peace.. Truly made our vacation.. Another winner!
Thanks to everyone here for helping me pick mostly all winners!!
