Like they say on "Check please Bay Area", husband says "it was good; I would go back."
So we live in Vacaville, but get car maintenance in Sacramento, so husband says if you think of something to eat in Sacto that travels well, let me know". Lots of chains and strip, malls, but I'm pretty cool being so near SF, Napa and Tahoe. And we get KQED AND KVIE.
I hustle on over here, but as is often the case, stuff is less current than the Bay area stuff, so I'm updating with yelp. comes down to Tori's Place, Mo Mo's Meat Market, South, and The Porch. He is closest to Tori's (soul food) and it sounds up our alley, but could be a long wait. Next closest is Mo Mo's (Bar B Q), but they close at six, and at 4:20 only have ribs left. Husband asks why not just go down to Fairfield to Chez Soul, our usual, but a few weeks ago we called and they said something disconcerting, and I said no. So it's on to South, but I was put on hold on my cell phone for 5 minutes, and they didn't pick up (went to message) with several tries on my and line, so not looking good.
But by this time, husband was there, ordered, and the wait wasn't long.
We got Bar B Q platter, Fried chicken, gumbo, cornbread, yams, red beans and rice, and strawberry shortcake.
We both REALLY liked the cornbread, husband felt the pulled pork and brisket went really well with yams, the fried chicken good with the biscuit, and I enjoyed the gumbo as well. Is it weird to want more rice?
We are still "enjoying" it, as they say while they try to take your plate at the Napa restos.
