South Creek Pizza opened last winter in the South Creek shopping center near Whispering Vines. They advertise true Neapolitan pizza with a wood burning oven and flour imported from Italy. I think they are hitting the mark.
We had a large table with 11 people but Derek, our server, was as friendly as could be and very efficient. We started with fire roasted green beans, which I thought could’ve been a bit crispier, and a good Caesar salad.
With so many people we were able to sample a nice variety of their pizzas, which the table agreed were all good. However, there were 3 standouts. The Nomad; fresh and smoked mozzarella, shitakes, garlic, truffle cheese, and truffle oil, with a farm egg on top, soft and runny, put this over the top.. The Campo had tomatoes, mozzarella, Italian sausage, sopressata, bacon, and parmesan. We also liked the Afterburner, which would certainly have been satisfying after a few days at Burning Man. It had meatballs, tomatoes, mozzarella, parmesan, red onions and a side of hot cherry peppers, which most of agreed should stay on the sidelines.
All of us winos were able to bring numerous bottles of wine and pay a fair corkage of $15/bottle. Food prices were moderate. The Reno dining scene keeps getting better and better.
