Last night we had dinner at one of our favorite spots on South Beach, Sardinia. It was very quiet there with only 3-4 tables busy outside at 7:30. It was a lovely evening to sit outside, and the inside was empty.
I started with the veal meatballs, always good and a large serving of three with braised fennel. My dinner partner had the seafood salad with white beans which looked nice and he said it was just ok.
For a main I ordered the paella which is served with fregula, a type of Sardinian pasta. I have had this dish many times at Sardinia and it was always full of all types of shell fish with a very tasty sauce. Last night my plate arrived with 4 mussels, one shrimp and a few bits of octopus. The plate was skimpy, with not the same taste or appeal. I told the waiter and asked if there was a new chef or if someone different had prepared my dish. His answer was no, never asking if I would like something else. I didn't eat my dinner as it had an off taste. My dinner partner had pasta with veal meatballs and enjoyed his. When the bill arrived as we expected my dinner was included.
We were so sorry that we had this expierence there because this was one of our top favorites, but with the attitude the waiter displayed, and the poor quality of the food I was served, we will not be returning to Sardinia.
At four this morning my dinner partner was violently ill from the seafood he ate last night! Not a good omen for Sardinia.
