Soursop/Guanabana... would it work in cake?

I am just wondering if adding the nectar to cake batter instead of water or milk would result in a tasty unusual cake or would it be disgusting. I tried to experiment with a traditional carrot cake recipe, by replacing the carrots with papaya and the results were disastrous. Any suggestions on giving cakes a tropical flair other than the cliche of pineapples?
