Restaurants & Bars

sources for free-range, hormone/antibiotic-free, humanely and locally raised beef, pork, poultry, eggs and dairy (cheese, butter, buttermilk)?

Houston Beef Pork Poultry

Apologies for the long topic. For a variety of reasons, I have decided to try to source my meat, poultry, eggs and dairy this way. Unfortunately, I am in the Clear Lake/NASA area, where the pickings seem to be slim-nonexistent.

Any suggestions?

I could drive into Houston once or twice a week to load up. I'd also be open to the idea of a club/subscription/share/pick up/delivery option.

Thanks kindly for any leads.

Wade

I've heard that you can order beef, pork, chicken, eggs, and milk (I think) from Yonder Way Farms, and I think they have various drop off spots in the Houston area, including some down your way. If I recall correctly, it's all free range, hormone free, etc.

Jolie Vue is great and they deliver to your door, but the catch is you don't get to pick what you get. Their eggs, beef and pork are great, their sausages are also great, and it's nice having pork fat to render ... but their poultry was consistently awful. The way things are packaged, they make it difficult to cook for more than two. (You might get two steaks, for example.) For that reason, I canceled about a year ago. They said they were working on the poultry quality, and honestly most of my delivery was beef and pork.. not a big deal.

A friend of ours arranged to have Jolie Vue deliver to Clear Lake, and I believe it is still available.

They are super nice people and a pleasure to do business with. I recommend signing up for their next open "house" at the farm.

I don't know of anywhere else to get pastured pork.

Yonder Way farm is also good. They have really great poultry. The downside is they don't deliver to your door; They deliver to a local area once a week and you have a one or two hour window to pick up your order. For a working family we found it virtually impossible to get to the pick-up location at the designated time. It's designed for stay-at-home moms. If you don't mind paying a huge premium, you can buy (or just try) their meats at Revival Market in the Heights.

Revival is also good for things like Elk, Venison ... Call ahead and make sure they have what you want, and they'll set it aside.
