Soup for the sick

Offbalance | Jan 24, 2005 10:06 AM

I feel like I'm coming down with something in my throad, so that always means I want something nice and hot for dinner, preferably of the soup variety.

Convenience must be as much a priority as quality, as I'm not really feeling up to trudging about too much.

I have it narrowed down to two choices fairly accessible to the trains I need:

1. I have yet to try the matzo ball soup at the 2nd ave deli, so I was considering that. But what else to have? I don't much care for corned beef and haven't heard many positive things about their salami (but consider Katz's the best I've ever had). Does Katz's have decent soup, or can someone reccommend something besides the soup at 2nd Ave for me to sample?

2. The Japanese noodle house on W56th whose name escapes me. I've been dying to try it since it popped up here as an alternative to the endlessly swamped place on W49th that was lionized by the NYT a few weeks back.

What would you do?
