Thanks for the replies. Turns out, we went to Vegas and almost went to the Valentino outpost there until I thought better of it. Still want to go but will opt for the orginal location in Santa Monica. As we were at The Venetian we decided to visit CUT and B&B Restorante (Batali). Since I have not been to CUT Beverly Hills yet, I was excited. Don't believe all of the naysayers because the meal was AWESOME! From the service to the decor to the chow, I was impressed. We had: Amuse of cheese puffs, stellar bread basket, heirloom tomato + goat cheese + anchovies salad, Steak Sampler (Wagyu, Kobe, and 35 day dry aged), Lobster + Truffle sauce, wild mushroom and asian peppers (you must get this!), creamed spinach with poached egg, chocolate souffle, and some peanut brittle at the end. Pair all of this with a smart selection of wines by the glass, skilled + friendly service, and it was a great bday for both of us. Highly recommend!
Batali's place B&B, so named becuse his patrner is Bastanich, reminded me of Mozza Osteria here locally. We had heirloom tomatos + buratta (my go to salad choice), crispy pig trotter over greens, Beef cheek ravioli (running away the best dish ever),Pappardelle with Bolonesse (also very good if pedestrian sounding), Short Rib, and combo chocolate, pistachio, espresso sorbet.
Here my complaint was about the service. Although there were plenty looking after our table, my gripe is with our waiter. Mr Sunshine did not know that we ate at CUT the night before and was none to pleased that we were going to share everything. Also when I added while ordering that we might want to add an additonal entree after we determined how full we were getting, his reply was to order it now or you will be waiting an hour. Pleeeeeease give me a break. My Mom is 80 and we are having Dinner at 5:30, first seating, in a 20% full resturant. Sorry that my $200+ meal and ensuing $40 tip was not good enough. Apart from that, positive experince.
I will be excited to revisit CUT here locally and take another trip to Osteria Mozza which has many of the same dishes as B&B
