Had a pleasant meal at Sotto Voce on Friday PM (punctuated by applause for a marriage proposal that occurred midway through our meal). While waiting at the bar for a table to open, we were invited to taste pieces of thin crust pizzas, one with tomato and mozzarella, the other with pesto, being test-marketed in preparation for the owners' new venture on 5th Ave., which will feature a wood-burning oven in which pizza will be made. The pizza was tasty. Don't know how many more restaurants 5th Ave. can sustain, although La Villa is packed with families most evenings. New Italian restaurant looks nearly ready to open just 40 yards from Sotto Voce. With Miracle Grill across the street, will Seventh Avenue absorb the Fifth Avenue overflow? Makes me think back to the late 80s, when Park Slope was a culinary gulch.
