Sorbet, ice cream, and other frosty treats

SarahCW | Jun 4, 201507:42 PM     41

It is getting hot here, and while I'm still getting up early to bake, I've been craving something cool and refreshing. I thought it would be fun to have a thread to share any fun cool treats we've been making.

I don't have an ice cream maker, but I've been making sorbets with some success using my immersion blender. It has been a good way to use up fruits that are almost to the end of their lives--and has led to some interesting flavor combos:
Mixed berry and lime (my first creation cleaned out all of my half empty frozen fruit bags)
Mexican chocolate sorbet (I used leftover orange juice, cocoa powder, and a good dash of cayenne)
Pear and dark chocolate chip
pomegranate and pear
Cantaloupe and blueberry (my mom gave me a cantaloupe that I forgot about--it was almost too ripe, perfect for sorbet!)

I've been tempted by ice cream makers lately, so I'd love to hear about what you've made with or without a machine! Bring on the hot summer days--more reasons to make something cool and sweet!
