I discovered this website thru a google-search for Sopranos in Woodmere, where we were going for dinner last night. This board is a real find. Anyhow, despite Allan's downbeat review of May 23, we went to Sopranos in Woodmere last night, mostly because we didn't know anywhere else in the neighborhood for kosher "fine dining." I have to say we were pleasantly surprised.
First, they have a very attractive weeknight special: starter+entree+dessert, with 1 glass of wine + coffee or tea, for $31. Considering that we're talking kosher here and that entrees alone go for as high as $28, this was quite a bargain.
Second, the food was quite good. Maybe not as good as the best of kosher Manhattan, but very close (ok, so the dessert was just a piece of cake from the bakery).
Third, it's a pretty comfortable setting. No tiny tables for 2. Tables not packed too closely. Good service by a friendly waiter. All in all, I'd have to say that Allan's bad experience on Mother's Day probably reflected the restaurant having trouble handling a really busy time. No such problem on a Monday night.
Anyhow, while I'm writing, I thought I'd ask: What other 'upscale' kosher restaurants are there in the 5 Towns and would anyone care to recommend one or more? I ask because the websites for the local shuls (which also came up on my google search) list what seems like an endless number of kosher places, but I have no way to tell which are sit-down's, which are take-out's, etc., let alone which ones are any good. So, if you've got opinions on this subj, please chime in.
