I'm going round and round in circles trying to work out where I could eat for 5 nights in Tokyo and 4 nights in Kyoto in March/April next year.
There are so many places to choose from but trying to find places where English menu's are offered, or English is understood, is really frustrating.
Being solo and a western female and never been to Japan before, I'm hoping for places that welcome solo diners, and solo females at that (I hope that doesn't sound sexist).
I don't really need Michelin dining, just really good food and a good ambiance. Bib Gourmand is fine with me, or even 1 Michelin star if it's fantastic.
Even if a certain depachika has good food, I'm interested.
In Tokyo I'm staying in Shinjuku but will be sightseeing in other areas too, and I'd really like to try:
Kobe or any good A5 beef (can be a cheaper lunch if it's more economical)
Ramen (any sort, or Tokyo style)
Omurice (I thought this was a breakfast item but found out it's more for lunch)
A great izakaya or two for yakitori
Kakigori (is this common in early Spring?)
Sushi (due to the price, is a depachika good for this?)
A great sake or shochu tasting
In Kyoto I'm staying in Gion but will be sightseeing, and I'd like:
(I don't think a Kyoto kaiseki is my style unless there's somewhere fantastic)
I hope this isn't too much to ask.......any suggestions are welcome....thanks.
