Best solo dining spots in Manhattan and Brooklyn?

scully4er | Apr 27, 2017 07:55 PM

I have a last-minute business trip to NYC on Tuesday-Friday (May 2-5) and I have glanced at some of the restaurant lists of the best places to dine solo in the city but nothing jumped out at me as a must-visit spot. I'd love to get suggestions.

I'm staying in midtown on W. 54th St., and working in Brooklyn during a couple of the days, so I could conceivably stay around for dinner if the restaurant warranted it.

I'm more comfortable at a restaurant with a comfortable bar as a solo diner. I'm okay waiting a bit for a seat, but I'd feel awkward spending too much time lingering alone and with nowhere to sit.

I avoid starchy carbs for my current diet, so noodle joints and bread-heavy spots won't work. Alas that does mean no Mexican, or burgers, since the lure of delicious carbs would be too strong. Sushi is kinda ruled out, too, since most things that I'd want have rice. pretty much anywhere I can get steak or a creative salad or chicken or seafood dish would work. Oh, and my company per diem is $80 for dinner. I won't have more than one glass of wine and probably just an entree, so hopefully that gives me some options.

With those weird guidelines, any thoughts?
