I have some time off and want to go and explore Chinatown in Sunset Park and Flushing, NY. I know dim sum is usually a family style meal, but if I were to eat solo, where would be the best bet? In Manhattan there is Nom Whah which is pretty easy (you can order 4 dim sum if i remember correctly; or single pork buns).
I have never had 'good' dim sum before and I need to change this! However i find the whole thing a bit overwhelming in terms of choice! As for what makes 'good' dim sum, are there any particular standards that people look for? (or is it all really down to personal preference - i.e. think vs thin wrappers).
To specify, any dim sum varieties are good here! If you could name a few spots in either Chinatown that would be a good solo-dining introduction to dim sum that would be great! I will try and do this personalized food tour soon!
