Snow Ice at QQQ Tea in San Jose

Melanie Wong | Apr 21, 201508:58 AM

While our lunch at Szechwan Chilli was not fiery enough to burn a hole in my tummy, something cold to follow up still sounded very appealing especially on this hot day. After some recon at cross-town rival Sichuan Chili, I dropped by its food court neighbor, QQQ Tea.

I've been here many times to get a boba drink after shopping at neighboring Sogo Tofu. But this was the first time I'd noticed the poster offering Snow Ice. The prices seemed hefty to me at $6.48 small and $7.98 large. Yet, since I've not tried this Taiwanese treat many times, I bit.

Mango snow ice was not that sweet nor very flavorful. If I could not see the orange-y color, I'm not sure I could identify this as mango. Frozen mini-mochi of green tea and strawberry flavors on top offered a chewy work-out.

My conclusion . . . at this price, I could have a double scoop of some excellent ice cream that I would enjoy more. Still, I'm wondering if there are better examples of snow ice to be found before I write it off.
