At two recent lunches at Washington "power lunch" spots--Signatures today and Charlie Palmer a few weeks ago, our parties of 4 had what could only be described as snooty service. At neither of these places were we regulars, or lobbyists on an expense account, but we were dressed professionally, and ordered apps AND entrees, some but not all off prix fix. Here's what we did at each place, which in my read had a direct effect on the service: asked the ingredients in some dishes; NOT ordered alchohol and/or the more expensive items on the menu; were NOT ready to order when the waiter was ready for us to order.
Anyone else experience this? It's not all over the place, but maybe just Pennsylvania Avenue? Anyone have a tip for successfully reversing the service slide in the middle of a meal?
