Snickerdoodles and Breakfast at Desiree

Stanley Stephan | Aug 22, 200204:13 PM

Desiree has to be the best tip I've found on Chowhound out of many, many interesting and tasty finds.

IMO, Desiree makes the best scones and muffins in SF. Had a wonderful scone with chunks of fresh peaches and hazelnuts. Desiree doesn't overdo on the baking soda which makes your mouth pucker on most scones. These are light and almost biscuit like.

Ditto the muffin with chunks of juicy orange and toasted walnuts which was still warm from the oven. I'm regretting I didn't take home the blueberry mango muffin also.

Desiree does catering and I know they will be at the top of my list for the next morning meeting that I need to provide breakfast goodies.

Breakfast is simple, but well done. There's a breakfast egg sandwich, eggs any style with bacon, or scrambled eggs with mushrooms and herbs. I went with the herb/mushroom scramble which was served with the excellent house bread and a chunky house made peach jam. Hmmmm, seems I need some synonyms for chunky. Good coffee too.

From what I overheard at the next table Friday is snickerdoodle day and they are excellent.

On a cold foggy day, Desiree was a warm cozy refuge where the smells of coffee and bacon greeted me in the hallway.
