Smoked sausage in a pinch when dry spanish chorizo is called for?

a braised chicken dish calls for crisped dry spanish chorizo, no chorizo on hand but since I have some, if I render some smoked sausage and then fry it until crisp and add some smoked paprika and cayenne pepper will I be loosing a lot of the original flavor profile ? ( this is for a family dinner not company )
