Monday's take-out dinner was the smoked chicken rice in a box, $5, from Chou Ma Ma's Kitchen, next to Ranch 99 in Newark. This was a whole leg hacked across the bone (that was red inside, btw) and reassembled in anatomically correct form on a bed of hot rice. Along with this was a good size serving of yellow pickled turnip, a thick triangle of firm marinated tofu, a soy sauce egg, and some beautiful sauteed greens.
The chicken was lovely and moist, and soooo smokey. It was all much better than I was expecting, and I'm wondering what else is good here. The selection leans toward Taiwanese-y snacks.
