A new "bistro'' has opened near us and we tried it the other evening for dinner. My wife and I thought the food was very good (mac&Cheese app; sea bass & veal saltimbocca entrees) but were a bit put off by the tableware service. They provide a fork and knife rolled in a cloth napkin, bread plate, water and bread on seating - OK so far. Mac & cheese was a shared app but was brought to the table with no extra plates for sharing (we used the bread plates but they weren't replaced). When our entrees arrived we were left to use our 'mac&cheesed' forks until we asked for new ones.
The family that owns this place has been in the better resto biz for 30+ years, so I'm wondering if this is some new approach to bistro dining or just poor staff training. This isn't a make-or-break thing but we obviously found it odd enough to be posting this. BTW, the tab for the above + 2 $8 glasses of wine was $78 before tip...... this wasn't Denny's.
