Perhaps it shouldn't be such a surprise, since the burger from Shula's347, the restaurant at the Sheraton Gateway LAX, gets fairly consistently good reports on the board...and I've had a very good burger at Shula's, but still, from room service! Getting the same quality in the room elevates it from good to great...
I got into LA late last night, meetings the next two days, and hopefully the world's most wonderful granddaughter will show up before it is time to go home. So, in other words, I may be in LA awhile. I won't stay at the Sheraton when it is my own dime, and I do plan to get over to check out the burger at Philly West, but last night all I wanted to do was collapse after a tough day with something satisfying to eat.
and the burger from the Sheraton really fit the bill. Showed up 20 or 30 minutes after ordered, still warm, perfectly cooked to medium rare as requested (that is the real miracle these days). juicy, pink, high quality meat, at least a third of a pound, formed by hand. just plain lovely. I ordered it without cheese, bacon or 'spread' (all of which you can get if you wish) but they brought little bottles of ketchup, mayo and mustard, and served it with lettuce and tomato. Nice bun, toasted, still warm.
Choice of salad, fries or cole slaw on the side. I got the slaw which was ok (bonus points for not being overly dressed, but fairly blah),probably should have gotten fries.
Wines by the glass aren't overpriced for the venu.
I have some relatively minor issues with the hotel this stay, and liked my recent stay at the Airport Hilton better, but I'd stay again in a heartbeat to order that burger from room service!
