Unfortunately, I cannot remember where this little eatery is. So, I am hoping someone on Chowhound recognizes this place. For the record, it is NOT Fortunato Brothers.
There is a stretch of road around Humboldt Street (I think!) that has a few Italian establishments. I distinctly remember a small cafe-like place which was run by an older woman. When you walk inside, there are flags of Italy and pictures of Dean Martin. They sell baked goods. It's not a restaurant, I wouldn't even call it a bakery---it's just a small place that sells Italian baked goods.
I remember they had amazing cannolis which they would make in front of you. Also, there may have been sfogliatella, cake, etc.
Where is this in Brooklyn? I think it's not in Greenpoint, but either in Williamsburg or East Williamsburg.
I should be able to remember more details if commenters have questions, but again, this is not a very strong memory. I just know it exists, and they have amazing food.
