SLO/Paso reviews & requests (long)

david | Jan 11, 2004 07:53 PM

I've been in SLO for the last two weeks on business. It looks like I'll be staying for another month or two. That means lots of dining opportunities! I'll give you a little recap of where I've been so far, and I'd appreciate any recommendations from locals or frequest visitors as to what else to try.

Where have I been so far?

in SLO:

Pepe Delgado's (on Monterey) - great chicken "wet" burrito and margarita. definitely going back.

Mo's BBQ (on Higuera) - can't say I cared for the ribs (memphis style) although they reportedly are the best in the area. Many LA area spots are better - I'm partial to Houstons at the moment.

Yanagi Sushi (on Marsh) - really good halibut, but the rest is solid, but not great sushi.

Okhee Cafe (Broad) - casual teriyaki rice bowl type of place. decent food for a quick lunch

Gus' Grocery (Osos)- good sandwiches, but not incredible.

Margie's Diner - glorified Denny's. odd smell which is not a good sign. decent food.

Rocky's (offshoot of McClintock's) - pretty good sports bar.

In Paso:

Papi's - great authentic mexican food - love the carnitas gorditas. a winner.

4 hermanos - another authentic local mexican food dive. good tacos.

In Templeton:

McPhee's Grill: nice, comfortable atmosphere. good macademia nut crusted salmon and great creme brulee. definitely going back.

In Cambria:

Robin's: good salmon bisque; decent fish sandwich.

Any suggestions as to where else to go? Espcially for lunch. I'm usually working late so I don't really have time for dinner. Also, I'm generally in the Paso area for lunch.
