Skeptical Chymist -- Scottsale

Last night I met a girlfriend and my BF for drinks and a visit. The Skeptical Chymist was selected, a new Irish pub. It's located on the SW corner of Pima and FLW. In the same shopping center as Earls, Ray's Pizza, Staples, etc.

I hadn't heard of it, but both BF and my friend had heard about it on the radio. It's owned by the same people that own Fibber Magee's in Chandler.

We started outside on the covered patio with misters. Pretty quickly we we sweating, hot, and we were sticking to the bar stools. We ordered our round of Guiness, Harp and Hoegaarden. The acoustics were really off and we were having to yell. It was like there was a weird dead spot on the patio and the cars zooming past didn't help the situation. Finally, the eau du sewer forced us inside.

It's a cute place. It's new and super clean. Like no pub I've been in. Now, I've not been to Ireland, but I've been in plenty of pubs in Scotland and England and this was too clean!

While we girls were chatting, BF ordered an assortment of snacks. Wings, fried mushrooms and chips and curry.

The wings were pretty standard. I didn't eat them, BF said they were "ok". I'm not a fan of the fried mushrooms either, but both friend and BF enjoyed them and ate them all.

The chips and curry were my faves. Big wedges of steak fries, nicely seasoned and well done. Crispy on the edges and fluffy inside. Certainly not a french fry. They were served with a bowl of curry. The curry was good. A lovely dipping sauce for the potatoes. Friend doesn't care for curry, but BF and I quite enjoyed it. I think that the apps were on some kind of special.

We had 6 beers and all three apps for $31 with tip, before tax.

As we were leaving at 9ish, the band was setting up. The have live music regularly. That's a nice touch.

Not as cozy as I would hope from an Irish Pub. I also have been calling it the "Serious Alchemist" for some reason.

I'd go back for beers and snacks. Maybe try the fish and chips.

Have a great weekend!
