Just returned from the Sioux Empire Fair. Nothing I would ever drive to by itself, but when you bring in Burton Cummings And Randy Bachman ( The Guess Who ) hey, I'm there. First I will say that the band is unbelievable. If you get chance, go see them.
Now to the chow. I requested dining options and was sorely disappointed with the response from Sioux Falls chowhounds. I did get one for the Granite City Brewery that I would like to thank the respondent for (sorry I don't remember your name). This was chowhound food!
Good quality microbrew, but the burgers, oh the burgers.
You know you are in cattle country when they ask you how you'd like your burger cooked, and you say medium rare, and that's how you get it.The waitress informed me that the meat is brought in fresh daily, and that is something rare. I had the blue cheese burger, 1/2 pound patty cooked a perfect medium rare, covered with bacon, cheddar cheese, blue cheese dressing, and topped with a huge pile of onion rings, the thin string variety. It was pure heaven. I'm not really a burger guy when I dine out, but this intriqued me so I had to give it a shot. Well worth it. I would comment on everyone elses meals, but suffice it to say they enjoyed them while looking longingly at my burger.
So, a lot of talk about a lunchtime burger, but I always find if you can do a righteous burger, you can do anything.
