The smaller sister-outlet to Brasserie Gavroche across the street, Café & Bar Gavroche has a popular, no-reservations, first-come-first-served weekend brunch, serving up continental classics.
What we had this morning:
- Croque Madame - fried sandwich filled with Gruyere cheese and ham, smothered with Béchamel sauce and topped by a sunny-side-up fried egg. Cloyingly rich. The bread was a bit too thick and dry from overcooking.
- Scrambled eggs on brioche fared a bit better - buttery-rich.
- Eggs Benedict - perfectly poached eggs, hyper-rich Hollandaise sauce with ham on toasted muffin. Nice.
- Scrambled eggs with sausages - greasy. Didn't like the herbed sausages.
Overall, nice, pleasant spot for breakfast, but didn't display the class and finesse in cooking of the older Brasserie Gavroche.
