Had breakfast at Hong Lim Food Centre's Old Stall Hokkien Street Famous Prawn Mee this morning.
This stall has been selling Hokkien prawn noodles in soup since 1943, and going strong. For S$5, one gets a bowl of Hokkien noodles/bee hoon mix, with fresh prawns, melting-soft pork ribs, kangkong vegetables (空心菜) & beansprouts. The soup was delicious - with a depth of flavor from boiling pork and prawns for a long time. One can sprinkle Old Street's famous red chilli powder liberally over the noodles to provide that extra spike in flavor - the powder has the appearance of docile paprika but the explosive heat of gunpowder. Also available to be bought in little jars.
The incessant pounding of construction work at Chinatown Point next door was a minor distraction, but the hot/humid weather in Singapore can prove a bit challenging.
