Sing Kee Arises in Manhattan Chinatown

Jim Leff | Aug 23, 2016 11:15 AM

Fans of the late lamented Shing Kee at 42 Bowery will be heartened to learn of the presense of "Sing Kee" at same address, with a similar menu, and good-looking food photos on Yelp: https://www.yelp.com/biz/sing-kee-sea...

They close super-early, and there are no thousand-layers-of-plastic tablecloth for waiters to tote dirty stuff back to the kitchen in a bundle anymore. But still heartening.

Finally, had a meal at Yee Li (1 Elizabeth at Bayard) last night (Sing Kee was closed). Really fine black bean sauce on really nice shrimp, salt/pepper soft shell crab was very good, and they were generous with the off-menu foo-yee sauce on the assorted mixed vegetables. Awful gringo-leaning menu, but they take special requests. Need to translate the many specials taped to the wall in Chinese.

Sing Kee,
Yee Li
