Silver Spring Mayorga review

Xochitl10 | Aug 29, 2003 12:02 AM

A couple of Saturdays ago, I met a friend at the Mayorga Coffee Company at Georgia and Blair Mill. We thought it was quite pretty inside, very open, earthtone-y and full of comfortable-looking couches and chairs, in addition to regular tables. She was concerned about whether it was an appropriate place for her to bring her two-month old child -- there were a ton of families there when we arrived.

I ordered cafe au lait and a blueberry muffin; she had draft root beer and a roast beef sammich that looked fab and (not homemade) potato chips. My cafe au lait came in a pilsener glass and was quite good, although I would have preferred more cafe. The muffin was really tasty and moist -- I don't think baked goods are made on the premises. For others allergic to nuts, the raisin bran and oatbran muffins have nuts in them. Also, I would be skeptical of the napoleons -- custard looking a little rubbery.

On our way out, my friend ordered the raspberry creamsicle, which is raspberry granita layered with whipped cream. She called it "more of a dessert than a beverage," and gave it raves.

Service was friendly and prompt, and they keep a pitcher of ice water on the coffee bar. It's a good coffeehouse to have close to home, and they have live music some nights!
