Can silken tofu replace eggs in cake?

I'm making a wedding cake for two friends who have some dietary restrictions (no corn/eggs/wheat but spelt flour ok; no orange, chocolate, coffee, or raspberry), and I'd like to make my favorite Fran Gage lemon cake, which is a standard butter cake. The only thing I need to do is replace the eggs--I've heard of using pureed silken tofu instead, but was wondering if anyone had any experience doing that. Don't want to use commercial egg replacers, as they seem weird and add a chalky taste. Any advice for tasty eggless baking, please let me know!
