Silk Road, Oakland

Stumbled onto an interesting find last night. Less than a month old and still working out everything, the Silk Road is located at the very end of Broadway, kitty corner from Barnes and Noble, just before you cross the tracks to Jack London Sq. Owned by a Vietnamese gentleman, which I met at the end of my meal, my wife and I were not terribly hungry so we ordered a couple of starters and shared an entree. The faire is Asian Fusion. For starters, we tried a crispy spring roll stuffed with a crab mixture of who knows what which was very tasty and well presented. We then tried the spicy marinated baby back ribs, soaked in olive oil before cooking, which were fabulous and slid right of their small bones. High marks for these 2 starters. Each was about $9. The entree, a squab with a gorgonzola risotto and delicately prepared vegetables was a great choice. $16. I would never expect this kind of food for these prices. The chef, a filipino, trained in French and Italian cooking, is very creative and makes everything from scratch. He came out and took bows and explained everything to us but after some of their delicious cocktails, forgot most of what he said! Full Bar, but, wine list needs some serious tending to. Italian Colors of Montclair tried their hand in this space some years ago and failed. Let's hope this one catches on. I'll be interested to hear some other opinions.
