Saturday I was out and about just bumming around. Got off the Subway @ 23rd St and stumbled upon the Sikh Day Parade starting point in Madison Sq Park. After making my way past the loud music I discovered many tables where food was being served. No money was changing hands. As I walked further into the crowd people approached offering food. I kept walking hoping to check out all the tables. I believe these tables were set up either by indivual temples or families. Finally one gent approached me and gave me an aluminum foil wrapped dish, he explained what it was (nan stuffed w/chick peas, potatoes and other savories), well I couldn't say no at that point! Mmmmm, very tasty. I didn't eat anything else as I was allready full from a late breakfast. All these tables had a variety of bean dishes, rice and stews. They may not realize it, but next year I'm going back w/pals and treating it as the food festival it really is. I've been to other festivals in Madison Sq Park, (the Islamic festival for one)and none have been friendlier or more tasty!
