For the fans of Cooking Papa restaurants who lamented the downhill slide when the ownership changed two years ago https://www.chowhound.com/post/cookin... , some good news! Chef Dongcheng Wong, formerly of Cooking Papa and before that opening chef in the 1980s of the Millbrae branch of Hong Kong Flower Lounge, the HK-based chain, has launched the eponymous Sifu Wong Kitchen. Sifu means "Master".
The restaurant opened March 16 and is located in the Ramada Silicon Valley. I was a fan of Kyora https://www.chowhound.com/post/hiyash... , the izakaya and sushi bar that occupied this venue a decade ago. Yet, looking at my old post about it and mention of decor which I rarely do, stirred up the memory of a dark and narrow space. So it was nice to browse through the construction and finished photos on the homepage and restaurant's FB page, https://www.facebook.com/SifuWongKitchen . With an atrium, the footprint is definitely larger and with more natural light than its predecessor. More than two years in the making, it was originally slated to open in November, but was hit by the ban on indoor dining and waited till now for the soft opening offering indoor or poolside outdoor dining. Until May, the restaurant is offering a 20% discount on take-out orders.
Fingers crossed that the Peking duck, rice noodle rolls, egg puffs, wonton noodle soup stock, and more are as good as our memories of Cooking Papa's. Please report in when you have a chance to try Sifu Wong Kitchen.
