Sicilian Bensonhurst - does anything remain?

Lambretta76 | Nov 2, 2004 11:14 AM

So - I want to find the heart of Sicilian Bensonhurst (or any section of southern Brooklyn) but have no idea where to start. I saw a newspaper article that said it was on 86th between 14th and 21st Ave., but I found little there, save for a couple of pizzerias and tow pasticcerias.

So, my question to you guys is, where is it? Is there any walkable area to find Sicilian groceries, bakeries, restaurants, etc.? I'm not looking for anything in particular, but my future mother-in-law is coming to town and she is Sicilian and I'ld like to get her something. (Bonus points for suggestions of traditional Sicilian gifts that aren't alcoholic.)
