Sicilian Bakery, Cafe, and Gelato in Lindenhurst, NY

I found Villa Bella in Lindenhurst while driving around looking for a good slice of pizza in Lindenhurst (no luck yet, anyone know any?). One of my favorite cookbooks is Sweet Sicily (see link below), which my girlfriend gave me for Christmas. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to make some of the labor intensive, but wonderful looking sweets contained in that book. While the book makes excellent reading on its own, I figured I'd either have to spend a whole Saturday baking or fly to Sicily to taste some of these wonderful creations. Villa Bella was like a dream come true. Villa Bella has a lot of the traditional Sicilian cookies and pastries. I haven't tried any pastries yet, but the cookies are good. I liked the almond paste cookies, sesame cookies and black pepper and almond braided cookies. The lemon biscuits were a disappointment (it was obvious from looking at them, but I got them anyway), so get those somewhere else, but there's plenty more to try here. They also have hand decorated marzipan fruits and authentic cassata cake with candied fruit on top (back refrigerator, check out the giant cannoli filled with little cannoli). If all that weren't enough they make wonderful ices and gelatos using fresh fruits and other ingredients. The ices and gelatos alone make this place worth a trip. If you get a gelato make sure you get it in a sweet brioche roll, which is how it's eaten in Sicily
