Sichuan lunch at Beijing Garden in Vancouver, fka Szechuan House

About a month ago, a local Hound and I hit up Beijing Garden to try a few dishes. As the new name would imply, this place has a bit of an identity crisis and the menu is kind of a mishmash. I had heard from another Hound in the hood that it had gone downhill since the name change. If so, we were lucky this day. All three items we sampled were solid. There was Sichuan cold noodles, with great bounce and a reasonable amount of peppercorns. I found the sauce a tad sweet but my DC was a full on fan and this is a dish he uses as a bellwether. The la zi ji was tasty, no bones which I prefer, prolly could have used a little more huajiao for the DC. The water boiled fish was very nice. At first we thought it was a bit too soft but it just needed a wee bit longer to "boil." Not quite as good as Nine Dishes but worthy. Took home some leftovers. I'd go back.
